The building sits near Freedom Square at the heart of Tbilisi.

Its upper level is 19th century European. The basement is older, once a street, later buried as the city expanded.

The design decision was simple, leave the layers visible. Raw brick, traces of Soviet paint and exposed surfaces remain untouched.

Against them stands a monumental red steel staircase. History retained. Architecture added.
